Key factors in the stability of the peri-implant soft tissue
Implant therapy has shown excellent long-term survival rates and a clear improvement in the patient’s oral function and quality of life. However, there is still controversy on the role of the peri-implant soft tissues and how their stability may influence the long term prognosis of implant therapy. In this presentation the main aspects that may influence the stability of the soft tissues will be discussed, namely their structural composition and organization, the importance of the height and width of the keratinized peri-implant mucosa, its tissue thickness and its resistance towards bacterial challenge.
- To understand the peri-implant soft tissue structure and composition
- To understand the importance of the height and width of the keratinized mucosa
- To understand the influence of the soft tissue thickness
- To understand the mechanisms of host tissue response against bacterial colonisation
